Halva (Wheat-based)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 5 cups water

Method

  1. Heat the margarine very gently in a saucepan. Add the flour, and cook for 40 minutes over low to moderate heat until golden brown.
  2. When the flour turns light golden, combine the sugar and water in a separate saucepan. Boil gently to make a syrup.
  3. Add the syrup to the saucepan with flour, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Scoop out small portions of halva with a wooden spoon, form into balls, and place on a serving plate.
  5. Serve warm.
